Rain

Today I skipped church in favor of beginning the cleansing of all of the stuff that I have accumulated over the past little while. I did much cleaning and rooting though old boxes to clean up stuff that I had little or no interest in and was simply taking up space. Halfway through this endeavor I escaped to the great outdoors with my friend and roommate Jordan. We took a well known path down through the cemetery and out through a park either named Confederation or Centennial. I guess its celebrating the same thing, just one century apart. Anyways the clouds were out and it was a glorious crisp walk. Nearing the end of said walk it started to drizzle a little on us. It was like that nice and comforting drizzle that reminds you that it is still fall, and there is snow on the way, but not yet. We walked down one roadway in the cemetery and it was lined on one side by deciduous trees (they have leaves) and the other was coniferous (they have cones). It was right out of a Zach Braff film about New Jersey. I liked the moment and the smell of rain mixed with the decomposing leaves. As we headed out of the cemetery we started talking about the rain and how its sad that Alberta does not get the same type of torrential showers that lots of the rest of the world does. Jordan, from Ontario, told of massive thunder and lightning struggles as the sky's poured forth fire and brimstone. Then I told of how the sky's here merely pour out meager doses of H20 in an effort to remind the inhabitants that there is moisture in the air. I then remembered that a few summers ago we were graced with a few dangerous storms that pounded the downtown and reflected the lightning off of the high-rises, which no doubt took the brunt of the storm.

I also love the rain when its so hot out that the rain is more or less like a shower. So warm and so refreshing in the sticky summer weather. I also love the rain when your driving down the McLeod at 70 km/hr and it is spraying up all around the little Honda Accord like your driving through an endless stream. I like that too. But what I really love about rain, and why it is one of my favorite things is due to the cleansing nature of wetting the earth. There is nothing like going for a walk during or after a rain storm to make you feel clean and fresh and ready to take on the day. So the next time it rains, I urge you to take a moment and a deep breath consider the beauty that will come from watering the earth and also remember that rain + bows = Rainbows.

On a side note I will plug my website www.plaidforest.com. Go there and be amazed at the website creation talent of Charlie Buhler.
