Today

Today was one of my favorite things. I am currently in the city known only as North Vancouver. I am here on my vacation and seeing friends and generally sitting around and looking around. Buy why today? It was like any other day on vacation, it started with breakfast and a shower. I then left for a little place I, and a few other people, called Deep Cove. Deep Cove is home to many people that I know and love. This particular morning I went down to the actual cove and wandered around pondering life and taking photographs. I was feeling quite alive this morning as I soaked in rays from the sun that has spent the last few months out of reach. I took photographs of sail boats and rocks with moss on them and houses that are so close to the water I wondered if they would be in trouble if the water really did rise like Al Gore said it would. From Deep Cove I took a trip down a road that appeared on the map to be the most scenic way to my next destination. I stopped at a small park on the way and marveled at the beauty of the west coast. The evidence of the recent wind storms was quite readily available as there were trees of all shapes and sizes crashed to the earth from all sorts of places. From this small glimpse of disaster I headed to famed coffee watering hole JJ Bean. Said watering hole comes highly recommended from former employee Charlie Buhler. I had been there last night and was so impressed that I returned for a lengthy stay. I was given what appeared to be a cappuccino of sorts with a wonderful, but as I later discovered fleeting, latte art. This coffee was one of the excellent coffees I have ever consumed. I then spent the next 4 hours reading, journaling, thinking, pondering, looking around, eating, drinking more coffee. I perhaps read more in one sitting then I have ever read in the past. I consumed roughly a liter of coffee and felt the effects of the caffeine rattle though my body for about and hour. It was excellent. After I was done at JJ Bean I went wine shopping at this neat little store I found in the same shopping center. I then headed off for diner with current North Shore Alliance intern Sharon Langer. We supped at a dashing little eatery called Inn Cognito. A delicious open faced chicken sandwich filled my stomach to almost over flowing. To ward off sudden death due to over eating, Sharon and I decided that it would be best to work off our dinner by walking along the "Sea Wall". I still felt pretty full after acomplishing the first half of the walk, but still decided that it would be wise to stop for dessert at the "Beach House". I indulged in the Creme Brule, and as it generally is, it was delicious. Not to let ourselves over exert our stomachs, Sharon and I completed our walk and then headed to the Lonsdale Quay (read: Lonsdale Key). Side note: For the longest time I did not know that quay was the same pronunciation as key. Anyways, we watched tugboats leave there moorings to go and assist what could only be a gargantuan freighter fighting for its life on the open waters. That brings us to right now. I am writing on what can only be described as a "Mac". Its fluid and intutive motion bring me great joy as I write and share my day.

Buy why was today one of my favorite things? It is one of my favorite things because it contains so many things which were already my favorite things. Coffee, walks, reading, wine, friends, sunlight, driving, journaling, ocean, trees, breakfast, lunch, dinner, creme brule, flowers, tugboats, sea walls, and most of all rest. Today, though busy, was full of rest. I spent time with myself, and with God. I felt the comfort of warm coffee, of a friends hug, and of the sunlight. I also was able to start taking photographs again with some success, it was a powerful day. So there you have it. Today, February 20 2007, was one of my favorite days, ever.
